Nature is more accessible today, to more of us, than ever before- yet at the same time can seem further away.
Television and its numerous atelite channels brings the natural world within arm chair's reach. The startling, the breath-taking and the rarely seen before are increasingly just a cheap flight away. We can all take part in surveys about global warming or local wildlife at the push of a button or at the click of a mouse. It's all out therebut is it any closer?
Into The Light Of Things, reaquaints us with a first-hand experience of nature, hinting ar our daily encounters with the natural world directly under our feet, or in the sky above. By taking a step back and simply observing what is around them, the artists in the exhibition remind us of the beauty and wonders of the natural world, which literally is, on our doorstep.
The title of the exhibition is taken from the poem The Tables Turned by William Wordsworth. Here Wordsworth orders his philosophical peers to close their books and open their hearts to nature:
Come forth into the light of things,
Let Nature be your teacher.
